Institute of Business Consulting

The Institute of Business Consulting is the professional body for business consultants in the UK. Working closely with the Chartered Management Institute, the main targets of the Institute are to establish, maintain and improve the standards of competence and professionalism within the business consultancy sector.

The Institute of Business Consulting was formed by the merger of the Institute of Business Advisers and the Institute of Management Consultancy in 2007.

The business consulting profession in general is not regulated, the Institute of Business Consulting makes efforts to change this fact through it's membership. The Institute has a professional code of conduct which members follow and the members are able to be assessed to become Certified Management Consultants (CMC). For business management consultants this qualification is the sole award for competence recognised in the UK. The Institute is the only UK body that can award the CMC. It is also valid internationally within the 42 countries that belong to the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI).

The Institute of Business Consulting offers members training and development under their Management Consultancy Competence Framework. This framework was devised through professional consultation and research within the industry and builds on competencies required to attain the Certified Management Consultant Award
